SMBA senior named to all-state football team

Sam Boothby, a senior at San Marcos Baptist Academy (SMBA), was recently named to the 11-man Academic All-State Football Team by the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS).  Boothby was chosen not only on the basis of his athletic ability, but also because of his strong academic achievements.

Boothby is an imposing figure on the football field at 6-foot-6 and 315 pounds. He is also an imposing scholar, academically ranked ninth in his class with a 3.76 grade point average.

The senior hopes to play football at the college level. He has been accepted to both the University of Texas-San Antonio and to Texas A&M-Kingsville. Still looking, he is also in the process of taking an official visit to San Antonio’s Trinity University.

Boothby also is also a member of the varsity boys basketball team, the powerlifting team and the track team. Boothby is a cadet captain serving as the operations and training officer for the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC)Bear Battalion. He also is active in in choir and musical productions at SMBA.

He is a member of the National Honor society.

Boothby is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Boothby of Dharan, Saudi Arabia.
