The Hays County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) recently announced that the Brown Santa Program for 2009 was a huge success. HCSO Lieutenant Dennis Gutierrez, who spearheaded the program, said Brown Santa assisted 580 families and approximately 2,100 children this past holiday season.

Assistance was also provided to the San Marcos Youth Council (SMYC) Children’s Shelter and Hays County Child Protective Services.

The sheriff’s office said the work could not have been done without the work of countless volunteers and the aid of many businesses, churches and school groups, as well as individual donations to the program.

“At a time when the economy is down, it is assuring to know that the citizens of Hays County will step forward and help the less fortunate,” said Hays County Sheriff Tommy Ratliff.

  1. Book Warehouse was a part of this drive! I’d also tell anyone that wishes to that you can always donate to Texas Prison inmates. It’s a great organization in Austin that plays a positive role in our communities.
