Despite leading for most of a 20-minute stretch in the middle of the game, the Texas State women’s basketball team lost Tuesday night, 78-72 at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Corpus Christi’s Jade Davis led all scorers with 30 points, including her 13-for-16 output at the free throw line. Adrienne Scott added 15 for the Islanders, while Elisa Beagle scored 14. Victoria Davis led Texas State with 16 points, while Diamond Ford scored 14 and Chika Ofoegbu added 13 for the Bobcats.
Texas State battled back from a 10-1 deficit to take an 18-16 lead with 9:04 left in the first half. The Bobcats never trailed from that point until 7:27 remained in the game, when Scott made a layup to give the Islanders a 57-55 advantage.
The Bobcats pushed themselves up to a 68-64 lead with 3:53 left on Ford’s three-pointer. However, Corpus scored the next nine points to take a 73-68 lead with 19 seconds left while the Bobcats made two turnovers, missed three jumpers and missed two free throws.
The Islanders improved to 10-5 overall and 2-0 in the Southland Conference. Texas State dropped to 0-2 and 4-9.
