After ripping up the scoreboard in the first quarter Tuesday night, the San Marcos High School girls basketball team held slim leads all the way to the end for a 49-45 win at Lehman.
The Rattlers improved to 2-3 in District 17-4A, moving into a tie with Lehman, which has the same district record.
San Marcos scored 20 points in the first quarter for a six-point lead, and somehow managed to maintain a 23-20 halftime lead after scoring only three points in the second quarter.
Ali Gonzales and Ashley Crayton led the Rattlers with 14 points, followed by Dominique Miles with 10. Brianna Garza scored 13 for Lehman, followed by Amara Smith with 12.
The Rattlers play Friday night at home against Manor. Lehman will play Friday night at Del Valle.
Hays, which demolished Elgin, 51-23, Tuesday night, leads the district at 6-0 (18-8 overall), while Del Valle holds second place at 4-1, losing only to Hays within the district. San Marcos and Lehman are tied for third place.Email | Print
