A 66-61 loss to Texas-Arlington (UTA) Saturday afternoon at Strahan Coliseum started the Southland Conference season on the wrong foot as the Bobcats fell to 4-8 overall.
Victoria Davis led Texas State with 13 points, followed by Verinus Kalu with 12 points and Diamond Ford with 10. UTA’s Meghan Nelson led all scorers with 17 points.
The Mavericks improved to 6-8 overall and 1-0 in the Southland Conference.
UTA overcame a 27-25 halftime deficit and won the game at the free-throw line, making 18 of 28 charity attempts (64.3 percent), compared with five of 12 (41.7 percent) for the Bobcats.
The Mavericks scored 10 of the first 12 points in the second half and blew out to a 39-29 lead with 16:01 left in the game.
The Bobcats go on the road for their next two games, Wednesday at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Saturday at Central Arkansas.Email | Print
