Texas State put the hammer down in the middle stretch of the first half Tuesday night, cruising to a 95-70 men’s basketball win against Texas Lutheran at Strahan Coliseum.
The win raised the Bobcats to 4-8, with all four wins coming at home. Texas Lutheran fell to 2-7.
The Bobcats will next play on Saturday at Strahan Coliseum against Southern Methodist (4 p.m.).
Texas Lutheran took an early 16-9 lead with 15:42 left in the first half, but the Bobcats put their visitors in the rear view mirror ten minutes later, building a 44-24 lead with 5:45 left in the half after a 35-8 streak.
Texas Lutheran climbed back to within 68-55 with 10:39 left in the game, John Bowman scored the next five points for the Bobcats to give them a 73-55 lead.
Bowman scored 14 points in 17 minutes, all in the second half. Tying Bowman for Texas State’s game scoring honors was J.B. Conley, who also scored 14. Texas Lutheran’s Isaac Williams scored 19 points to lead all scorers.
Both teams shot well. The Bobcats hit 52.3 percent of their field goal attempts (34 of 65), while Texas Lutheran made 48.1 percent (25 of 52).
However, Texas State crunched Texas Lutheran on the boards, holding a 45-26 rebounding advantage.
