STAFF REPORT

Homebuilder and former Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Commissioner Ryan Thomason was officially sworn in as a San Marcos City Councilmember Wednesday after a special council meeting to canvass the vote.

Thomason won a run-off election on Dec. 15, defeating academic advisor Lisa Marie Coppoletta with 696 (61.37 percent) votes to her 438 (38.62 percent). On Nov. 3, the day of the general election, Thomason finished three votes short of the majority needed to win a three-way race with Coppoletta and small business owner Shaune Maycock. Thomason received 960 of 1,924 votes cast in that election.

Thomason, who was vice chair of the P&Z, won the seat left by retiring Councilmember Pam Couch. San Marcos Councilmembers serve at-large for three-year terms.
