Texas State launches redesigned web site

STAFF REPORT

Texas State launched the redesign of its homepage Tuesday after conducting numerous studies to improve it.

The new look is the result of more than a year of research and development. The site now incorporates video, has more easily found links and allows for more listings of university news and events.

Diana Harrell, Texas State’s director of the office of university marketing oversaw the project.

“We believe this presents a cleaner, easier-to-use interface and also allows us to present a wealth of multimedia content to visitors,” said Harrell.

Studies of best practices in university web sites from around the county went into the planning and execution of the homepage, Harrell said. Paul Collins, the university’s web designer, did much of the work and testing. He was assisted Nick Wing, a programmer in instructional technology support.

Three areas of video content are featured. “Rising Stars” profiles notable students, faculty and staff and was produced by Dean Brennen and Anlo Sepulveda of the university’s Educational Technology Center.  “Be A Bobcat” features students and  was produced by Collins and David Kin of the marketing office. “Bobcat Tube” is a compilation of video produced for and about Texas State and comes from a variety of sources, including television commercials produced for the university.

Harrell said, “We wanted our web site to be much more of a rich experience.”

The new site can be viewed at http://www.txstate.edu.
