Bowie Elementary School’s Ashley Espinoza was named the Superintendent’s Student of the Month by San Marcos CISSD Superintendent Patty Shafer, who met with the student on Dec. 7 to explain the honor and the responsibilities that come with it.

The student recognition is mostly based on the “Rattler” positive character traits of Responsible, Amiable, Thoughtful, Tolerant, Leadership skills, Enthusiastic, Respectful, and Supportive.

Bowie Elementary Principal Karen McGowan said that Ashley will also be recognized in the Bowie Champions assembly in January 2010.

A letter went to Ashley’s parents, Anita and Edward Espinoza, along with two bumper stickers that acknowledge her as the Superintendent’s Student of the Month. Her photo will grace the Bowie Elementary website ( as the honored student throughout the month.

Ashley enjoys playing volleyball with a Christian Federation of Police Officers (CFPO) team. She also enjoys math and science courses and scrapbooking.
