The City of San Marcos will celebrate the grand opening of the Rio Vista Tennis Courts with a ceremonial cutting of a tennis net at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5. The public is invited to attend.
Mayor Susan Narvaiz, City Council Members and Hays County officials will be on hand to dedicate the $614,126 project, located at Rio Vista Park, 555 Cheatham Street.
“We are delighted to be reopening the tennis courts, the only public tennis courts in San Marcos,” said Mayor Narvaiz. “This long-awaited project will provide great facilities for tennis players of all ages in our community.”
The new facility features six concrete tennis courts, player shade canopies, benches, spectator benches, windscreens, a practice backboard, water fountain, bicycle rack and perimeter irrigation system.
The Rio Vista Tennis Courts replace those originally built 35 years ago with a grant from the H.E.B. Tennis Foundation in 1974.
The project was funded by $414,126 from the City of San Marcos and $200,000 in Hays County park bonds.
Land Design Partners of Austin designed the courts, which were constructed by Thomas N Thomas of San Marcos. The geotechnical firm was Kleinfelder of Austin. Wide Lite provided special lighting for the new courts with three levels of lighting for players.
