San Marcos Baptist Academy announced recently that eight seniors served as pages at the Baptist General Convention of Texas (BGCT) annual meeting in Houston. The selected students traveled to the meeting which took place Nov. 15-17.
The senior students selected were Kristi Allison and Alyona Hansen of San Marcos, Daylon Hethcock of Lockhart, Alyssa Shallenberger of Buda, Alex Vletas of San Antonio, Connor Horak of El Paso, Steve Kang of Seoul, Korea, and Trina Gao of China.
Students from the Academy have served as pages for the BGCT annual meetings for the last 37 years. Their duties include manning the microphones and relaying motions during the three general sessions that take place.
San Marcos Baptist Academy is the only secondary school financially supported by the BGCT. The BGCT also supports nine accredited universities, which include Baylor, Hardin-Simmons and Dallas Baptist. The BGCT also approves Academy trustee appointments.
While it is affiliated with the BGCT, San Marcos Academy is not associated with any church. Chartered by a group of local citizens in San Marcos in 1907, it has always been an autonomous local educational institution accepting students of all faiths, creeds and ethnic origins without any statement of faith.
The Academy issues approximately $300,000 in financial assistance to day students from the San Marcos area. The school is fully accredited by the Southern Association of College and Schools.Email | Print
