With their berth to the NCAA volleyball tournament, the Texas State Bobcats are headed to Austin Thursday for a match against No. 2 Texas.
The Bobcats, 22-14, learned their assignment Sunday afternoon as they move on to their sixth appearance in the national championship tournament. The Bobcats will play Texas Thursday at 6 p.m. at Gregory Gymnasium on the University of Texas campus.
“This is a great opportunity for us,” Texas State head coach Karen Chisum said. “We’ll go over there and play hard. It (Our success) has been a tribute to the players, who have come out and played really hard this past month. Glad the tournament is in Austin so that our fans can go over and watch us play.”
The other teams in the Austin Regional are Texas Christian (TCU) and Rice. TCU is 26-6 with wins in nine of their last ten matches to finish second in the Mountain West Conference. Rice (23-8) won the Conference-USA Tournament as a No. 4 seed.
TCU and Rice will play Thursday at 4 p.m. in Gregory Gym.
The Bobcats enter the NCAA Tournament as the Southland Conference Tournament champions with a 3-1 win against Stephen F. Austin (SFA) last weekend. The Bobcats have won 13 straight matches.
