Dripping Springs sets date for "Christmas on Mercer Street"

STAFF REPORT

Dripping Springs downtown businesses are preparing for the city’s fifth annual Christmas on Mercer Street event.

The festival will be Saturday, Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is hosted by the City of Dripping Springs and the Dripping Springs Lions Club. Admission is free.

Mercer Street will be closed to motorized traffic and filled with decorations, arts and crafts booths. There will be Santa sleigh rides, children’s activities, food, music and holiday entertainment. Last year, more than 90 vendors participated in the event.

City of Dripping Springs Parks Director Ashley Seay said, “This year we will have a trackless train ride, pony rides, an entertainment stage, mouth-watering food selections, Christmas Caroling and activities to keep people all day and into the evening for the annual Christmas Tree and Town Lighting.”

Santa will make his appearance in a Clydesdale-drawn carriage. The special tree lighting ceremony will be held at the Triangle at 6:15 p.m. Christmas carolers will serenade attendees and representatives of the City of Dripping Springs will announce the winners of the community holiday lighting contest.

Lighting contest entry forms are located on the homepage of the City of Dripping Springs website at http://www.cityofdrippingsprings.com, or participants can stop by the Dripping Springs City Hall to pick one up. Holiday Lighting Entry Forms must be received at City Hall by Dec. 1 to be considered for the contest. The contest will have three categories, residential, commercial and public/ non-profit.
