Distance learning celebrated at Hays CISD

Hays CISD celebrated National Distance Learning Week, Nov. 9-13, with a variety of activities.

On Nov. 12, a “virtual party” linked schools throughout Central Texas celebrating the growth in distance education. On Nov. 13 a mobile learning “webinar” showed students culture, language and collaborative learning globally.

“Some distance learning trends that are taking root in our district include integration of mobile devices, desktop videoconferencing, expansion of online learning and management of digital content,” Hays CISD’s distance learning specialist Christy Rickert said.

“More than 80 of our students have accelerated their learning through online opportunities,” she said. “Our teachers are utilizing tools such as blogs to increase student’s writing performance and motivation.”
