Bobcats fall to 1-3 in New Orleans

Texas State’s men’s basketball team will continue the NIT Tipoff in Fort Worth Monday night with a 1-3 record after losing, 67-55, at New Orleans Saturday.

The Bobcats shot only 29 percent (18 of 62) against New Orleans, falling behind with 25 percent (eight of 32) shooting in the first half, then being unable to come back because they shot only 33 percent (10 of 30) in the second half.

Texas State held its last lead at 12-11 with 9:49 left in the first half. New Orleans extended its lead to 29-19 with 3:45 left in the half, then settled for a 31-25 halftime lead.

The Bobcats put up a slight rally in the middle of the second half with seven straight points. A three-pointer by J.B. Conley, two free throws by Cameron Johnson and a lay-up Ryan White brought them within 44-41 with 10:56 left in the game.

But the shooting never improved for Texas State and New Orleans improved its lead to 64-54 with 1:03 remaining.

Tony Bishop led Texas State with 16 points and added six rebounds. Johnson scored 12 points with seven rebounds. Billy Humphrey led all scorers with 23 points for New Orleans.

Texas State will play Wisconsin-Milwaukee Monday in Forth Worth (5:30 p.m.). The Bobcats will play Texas Christian in Fort Worth on Tuesday.
