CTMC hosts free preview of new expansion

Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) will unveil its new $35 million expansion project to the community at a free preview from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday. The public is encouraged to attend.

Guests may tour the facilities at their leisure and will be treated to unique food and beverages, children’s entertainment and an opportunity to win a laptop, a 32-inch flat screen television or a new iPod Touch.

“We are thankful to have completed a state-of-the-art facility that provides families the convenience of being closer to home,” said CTMC President and CEO Gary Jepson. “It’s with great excitement that we open the doors of our new Women’s Center to the community.”

The expansion passed inspection by the Texas Department of Health on Nov. 17, officially giving the hospital possession of the new addition. The hospital’s numbered of licensed beds increases from 113 to 150 with the expansion. Crews will be installing furniture, equipment and artwork over the next few weeks.

The 64,000-square-foot addition includes a new Women’s Center will all private rooms. There is also a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and a new cardiac inpatient unit also with all private rooms. The expansion also include an on-site, high-risk delivery suite and a customized cesarian section suite. The Women’s Center will be open to patients on Nov. 30.

“Every space and service has been designed to provide a peaceful, healing atmosphere for mothers and families,” said CTMC Vice President of Patient Services Lana Cameron. “With the new Women’s Center, we have created the personal, family-centered experience our community deserves.”

The Center has special features and amenities for mothers and families which includes flat screen televisions, free Wi-Fi, nutrition stations, a gift shop, an online photo album of your newborn for family and friends to view and a Healing Garden for visitors.

CTMC also offers expanded childbirth education and certified breastfeeding support. Classes cover a variety of topics including Childbirth Education for First-time Moms, Childbirth Refresher, Cesarian Sections, Breastfeeding and Lactation Consultation. All programs are offered in both English and Spanish.
