Middle stretch beats Bobcats at Arizona State

Playing at Arizona State Monday night, the Texas State men’s basketball team lasted until about the middle of the game, then fell, 84-62, in the first round of the NIT Tipoff.

The Bobcats fell to 1-1 when the Sun Devils tore out a 29-6 run starting with six minutes left in the first half. At the end of that carnage, the Bobcats trailed, 52-30, with 12 minutes left.

The Bobcats took a 24-23 lead with a 13-4 run in the middle of the first half. A series of runs characterized the early first half. Arizona State’s 15-5 run gave it s 19-11 lead before the Bobcats responded with their own explosion.

But then, Arizona State blew up in a way the Bobcats couldn’t match. The Bobcats missed six shots and made four turnovers as Arizona State put up a 16-2 run for a 39-24 lead before the first half ended.

Then, the Sun Devils came back with another devastating blast, a 13-4 run straight out of intermission to build their first 32-point lead of the game.

The game included 47 turnovers, 27 of them by Texas State. Arizona State shot 52.1 percent (25 of 48), while the Bobcats shot 36.2 percent (21 of 58).

Forward Cameron Johnson led the Bobcats with 14 points, adding eight rebounds. Emmanuel Bidias A’ Moute took ten rebounds and added four points.

Arizona State guard Derek Glasser led all scorers with 20 point, followed by teammate Trent Lockett with 17.
