The Texas State baseball team has signed nine recruits during the early signing period, including San Marcos High School standout Blake Bagley, one of the top prospects in Central Texas.
Bagley, who is going into his senior baseball season at San Marcos High School, was a third-team All-State first baseman and first-team District 17-4A pitcher last spring.
“This is definitely one of Texas State’s most exciting recruiting classes that have signed in my coaching career,” Texas State coach Ty Harrington said. ” … We were able to sign our first class that could visually see the new stadium. The excitement surrounding that adds to the momentum of this growing program, athletic department and university as a whole.”
The university listed Bagley as a pitcher in its announcement of the signing class, which will debut in the spring of 2011.
Of the nine players Texas State signed, six are listed as right-handed pitchers. The others in that group are Scott Grist of Kempner, Dustin Fitzgerald of Hill Junior College, Kyle Finnegan of Kingwood, Taylor Black of Allen and Casey Kalenkosky of Cisco Junior College.
The Bobcats also signed a left-handed pitcher, Tyler Nurdin of Paschal. Texas State signed two infielders, Cody Perkins of Kingwood and Paul Hendrix of Birdville.
