Still time to register for annual Thankful Turkey Run/Walk

TurkeySTAFF REPORT

The seventh annual Thankful Turkey 5K Run/Walk will start at 7 a.m. at River Ridge Park this Saturday. There is still time to register for this Bluebonnet Lion’s Club sponsored event. The run/walk is one of their largest fund raisers to support local community charitable causes.

The pre-registration deadline is past, but racers can still enter for $20 through the day of the race. Current students at Texas State with a student ID will receive a $3 discount. All pre-registered participants will get a Thankful Turkey T-shirt and a goody bag. Race day shirts will be available as long as supplies last.

The race divisions available include ages 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 50-69, 70 and over. There is also a wheelchair division. The top three male and female finishers in each age division and the male and female wheelchair winners will all receive a tasty prize. First place winners will get a turkey, second place will receive a ham and third placers will go home with a pie.

The overall male and female winners and the male and female master winners will be awarded both a turkey and a trophy.

The race route is flat, fast and traffic free, winding through the business park where Grande Communications and Butler Manufacturing are located. You can view the race map at http://home.centurytel.net/bluebonnetlions/tt5k/TT5K_2008_flyer.pdf.

Race Director David Alexander, along with the San Marcos Runners Club, will officiate at the run/walk.

“We are so fortunate to have David and SMRC providing the expertise in putting on this kind of event,” said Bluebonnet Lions Club Event Organizer Judy Aswell. “This kind of support makes it possible to have a successful fundraiser in the community.”

The top sponsors for this year’s race are McCreary, Veselka, Bragg & Allen, P.C. Attorneys at Law, Grande Communications, Medpark Pharmacy, Thermon, and Physical Therapy and Rehab Concepts.
