Kyle City Council member Ray Bryant resigned his District 6 seat on the council today to run for Hays County Pct. 2 Commissioner.
In a statement announcing his candidacy, Bryant said “roads are my passion” and building them would be a priority.
“The citizens of Kyle, Buda, Uhland, Niederwald, and the rest of the precinct must have better roads to link up with the improvements that are now underway to IH-35, FM 1626, SH 21 and FM 15,” Bryant said. “I look forward to discussing this topic in detail with the citizens of Precinct 2 during my campaign as we share our ideas with one another. I find that my initial ideas take on a new life after talking directly with the people.”
Other issues the county faces, Bryant said, include securing adequate water supplies and saving “increasingly polluted watersheds”; an overcrowded justice center and county jail; “necessary tools and support for law enforcement and emergency services”; and regional planning and cooperation.
“I believe my actions on the Kyle City Council demonstrate that I can represent the citizens of this precinct rather than the narrow concerns of any special interest groups or my own political agenda. I have the courage to vote against the pack when that is what the people want. Iʼve watched too many politicians who just sit there and consistently vote with the rest of the crowd.”
Elected to the council in 2007, Bryant has lived in Hays County with his wife and three children since 2004. He holds an undergraduate degree from Texas State University in sociology and business administration.
In addition to his council seat, Bryant has served on the Kyle planning and zoning commission and board of adjustments; the North Hays County ACC Steering Committee; Hays CISD Strategic Action Planning Committee; Capital Area Council of Governments Clean Air Coalition; and the Amberwood Homeowners Association.
Pct. 2 Commissioner Jeff Barton is widely considered a contender for Hays County Judge, but has not announced his intentions. State law requires officeholders to resign their posts in order to seek a higher position if the officeholder has more than a year left on their current term.

I’ve known Ray Bryant for nearly 5 years and am proud to support him for County Commissioner. Ray served as HOA President for 3 years and is a wonderful neighbor. He’s smart and passionate about the needs of the people. Ray has been an avid supporter of the city of Kyle while serving on the City Council. He is not someone that runs to the limelight, but is a hard worker that toils in the trenches to make government work like its supposed to. He’ll be a great addition as County Commission.
