SMBA promotes JROTC students at parents day

For the first time, JROTC commissions and promotions were awarded during a ceremony at San Marcos Baptist Academy’s (SMBA) during Parent Day on Oct. 24. Several SMBA JROTC cadets were promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant or higher.

Battalion Commander Chloe Rocha of San Marcos was promoted to the rank of Cadet Major. Cadet Major Rocha is the first female commander of the Corps of Cadets in the 91-year history of JROTC at the Academy.

Promoted to the rank of cadet captain were Executive Officer Alex Vletas of San Antonio, Training Officer Sam Boothby of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, Alpha Company Commander Michael Young of New Braunfels and Bravo Company Commander Patrick Gibson of San Marcos.

Promoted to the rank of Cadet First Lieutenant were Personnel Officer Maggie Boylan of San Marcos, Security Officer Nolan Rutland of San Marcos, Logistics Officer Victoria Hargroder of San Marcos, and Technology Officer Connor Horak of El Paso.

Publicity Officer Trina Gao of China was promoted to Cadet Second Lieutenant, along with Alpha Company’s Second Platoon Leader Kevin Walker of San Antonio and Bravo Company’s First Platoon Leader Drake Hill of Baytown. Yaz Gaylor of Bastrop was promoted to the rank of Cadet First Sergeant.

Jeb Yearwood of Georgetown was promoted to the rank of Command Sergeant Major, the highest non-commissioned officer position a cadet can attain.

Promotions at the company level were presented after the ceremony. Day students receiving promotions include Hunter Bilson, Shane Boyer, Chris Germer, Estevan Gutierrez, Alexey Hansen, Tiara Hansen, Ty Merriweather, Aubrey Oswalt, Vishal Singh, Dalton Wade, Rusti Wade, Garret Walker and Cody Watson of San Marcos, Daniel Sexton and Alyssa Shallenberger of Buda, David Bennett of Dripping Springs, Parker Allan of Martindale,  Collin King of Austin, Jamilyn Patton of Wimberley, Chris Roberts of Dale,  Zane Shirley and Michael Trejo of Kyle and Luke Smithers of San Antonio.
