HCWC to give workshops for Prevention Education Week

STAFF REPORT

Throughout Prevention Education Week to take place Nov. 16-19, the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center (HCWC) will conduct workshops on how every family can play a role in preventing child abuse in their communities.

The free workshops will address parents and children from all age groups.

The workshops will be presented in several different locations. There will be a workshop on Nov. 16 at First Christian Church, 3105 RR 12, in San Marcos, from 6-8 p.m. The Lockhart workshop will be at Lockhart High School, 906 Center Street, from 6-8 p.m.

On World Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse, Nov. 19, HCWC and the San Marcos High School Art Club will unveil a mural at the Hays County Justice Center, 110 MLK Drive, from 3-4 p.m. The mural will address the question: What would a world without child abuse look like?

The purpose of the World Day and Prevention Education week is to heighten the awareness of communities to the problem of sexual violence against children. The events are conducted with the hopes that they can engage and mobilize community members in efforts of prevention.

For more information on the events, call Beverly Engel at (512) 396-3403. For additional information on World Day go to www.woman.ch.
