Bobcats carry volleyball win streak to eight

STAFF REPORT

The Texas State volleyball team last week avenged two losses from earlier in the season, but it’s the loss the Bobcats won’t be able to avenge that makes the difference.

With wins last week against Lamar and Sam Houston, the Bobcats ran their winning streak to eight straight matches, improving their record in the Southland Conference to 11-3 while improving to 17-12 overall. The Bobcats lost on the road to Sam Houston State and Lamar during the first week of October.

On Oct. 14, the Bobcats lost at home against Central Arkansas in five games. As it turns out, the Bobcats aren’t scheduled for a return match with the Bears, who already have clinched the Southland Conference, holding a 14-0 league record with two games left to play.

The Bobcats and Sam Houston are tied for second place at 11-3.

On Nov. 3, the Bobcats ran their winning streak to six matches, winning at Texas-Arlington, 3-0 (25-12, 41-39, 25-16). Mo Middleton led the Bobcats with 18 kills and five digs, followed by Jessica Weynand with 13 kills and 13 digs.

On Nov. 5, the Bobcats returned to Strahan Coliseum for a five-set win against Sam Houston State (25-17, 25-19, 18-25, 26-28, 15-9). Middleton had 15 kills, Weynand and Jillian Wolpman both had 1 and AJ Watlington had 10.

The Bobcats ended their home season on Nov. 7 with a three-set win against Sam Houston (25-11, 25-17, 25-17). Mo Middleton had 13 kills and five digs, Weynand had 12 kills and nine digs, Brittany Collins chipped in with 12 assists and Shelbi Irvin had 22 assists.

The Bobcats will close out the regular season this week, going to Texas-San Antonio Thursday night and to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday night.
