The San Marcos High School Texas 921st Air Force Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps’ (AFJROTC) received a supportive gesture from the San Marcos GI Forum recently. The Forum purchased a large group of tickets for the AFJROTC booster club fundraising meal, requesting that the dinners be distributed to needy families by the San Marcos Housing Authority. Judge Anna Martinez Boling made the same request for the tickets she purchased.
The barbecue chicken dinner sale will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at El Buen Pastor Church, 417 South LBJ, after the Veterans Day parade on Saturday. The plates of chicken quarters with rice and beans are $6. The booster club fundraisers sustain the program in its underfunded areas. They also provide target goals for the cadets, teaching responsibility and team building skills when accomplishing their objectives.
“We are very grateful to all the parents, organizations, and businesses such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3413, Cuevas Produce, San Marcos Outlet, San Marcos Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Nosotros La Gente, Victory Cleaners, American GI Forum, Pct. 1 Commissioner Debbie Gonzales-Ingalsbe, and many others who have been instrumental in the past and current school year,” said SMHS Aerospace faculty Lieutenant Colonel Larry Letcher.
The purpose of the JROTC program to instill in students a sense of accomplishment, citizenship, service to the United States, and personal responsibility.
