Two Texas State football players took top honors this week from the Southland Conference.
The league named Texas State quarterback Bradley George as its Offensive Player of the Week and senior linebacker Joe Bell as its Defensive Player of the Week.
George tied his own school record of 30 completions and threw for four touchdowns in last Saturday’s 28-7 win against Stephen F. Austin (SFA). George completed 30 of his 41 passes against the Lumberjacks for 303 yards. The 30 completions tied George’s school record for the third time in his career. George also surpassed 300 passing yards for the fourth time this year.
Bell recorded 15 total tackles against Stephen F. Austin, with five solo stops and 10 assisted tackles. He also forced a fumble on Texas State’s 19-yard line and the Bobcats recovered the ball for the first of three turnovers that Texas State forced. The Bobcats also held Stephen F. Austin to just one of four scoring attempts inside the red zone. Bell had 1.5 tackles for losses totaling five yards against SFA.
Texas State punter Ben Follis earned Honorable Mention SLC Special Teams Player of the Week honors. Central Arkansas kicker Eddie Carmona was named the conference’s special teams player of the week after kicking four field goals at Southeastern Louisiana.
