Wal-Mart recently donated $5,000 to Central Texas Medical Center for the furnishing of the hospital’s new Parent Sleep Room, a part of the new Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Once a premature baby is ready for discharge from CTMC, parents will spend the last night with the baby in the Parent Sleep Room. The nine-bassinette room is overseen by NICU nurses so that parents may receive proper education and feel comfortable taking care of their newborn.
“We are incredibly thankful for Wal-Mart’s generosity,” said Gary Jepson, the hospital’s president and chief executive officer. “I know that the parents will really appreciate such an accommodating and relaxing environment as they begin these exciting next steps of their lives.”
The NICU is a part of CTMC’s $35 million expansion project which also includes a new Women’s Center and cardiac telemetry inpatient nursing unit. The new facility will open to the public on Nov. 30.
The community is invited to a free preview event 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22. Guests will be treated to tours, hors d’oeuvres, family entertainment and a chance to win $1,500 in prizes.
