CTMC wellness center takes new name

The Center for Wellness and Sports Performance at Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) is now the Institute for Healthy Living.

The new location for CTMC’s wellness program is now in the main lobby of the hospital. There is also a new community classroom to host the institute’s offerings.

“The construction of the Healthy Living administration and reception center as well as the new Community Classroom emphasizes CTMC’s commitment to offering our community services and information about how to pursue and maintain personal wellness,” said Barry Tyler, CTMC’s Institute for Healthy Living Manager.  “Our goal is to provide tools that anybody can use to live a healthy lifestyle.”

The Institute for Healthy Living offers health and wellness programs, educational courses and a wide range of screenings. The Institute recently added Weight Watchers, a personal wellness program called the LoneStart Challenge and a Diabetes Dialogue Day. The dialog event is a half-day of information, screenings and educational lectures about diabetes, presented by speciality physicians.

Future programs and events are in development and will focus on women’s health, nutrition, financial wellness, healthy living for seniors,  children’s health and many more topics. The community is encouraged to recommend topics of interest to be covered by the Institute’s educational courses.

“The programs and services offered by the Institute for Healthy Living provide our community with the opportunity to take control of their health and overall well-being,” said Gary Jepson, CTMC President and CEO. “By providing a range of offerings and screenings we have been able to accommodate the variety of needs of our diverse area.”
