Bobcats win three straight in volleyball

The Texas State volleyball team put itself into a race to defend its Southland Conference title last week with two victories by sweep at Strahan Coliseum.

The Bobcats beat Nicholls State, 3-0 (25-18, 25-11 and 25-15) on Oct. 22 before sweeping Southeastern Louisiana (25-20, 25-21, 25-20) on Oct, 24.

With those victories, the Bobcats improved to 12-12 overall and 6-3 in the Southland Conference. They are tied for third in the league with Stephen F. Austin. Central Arkansas (10-0) leads the league, followed by Sam Houston State (9-1).

Amber Calhoun and Jessica Weynand both finished with eight kills against Southeastern Louisiana, while Matti Schumacher added six.

Against Nicholls State, Weynand and Mo Middleton each had ten kills.

With three straight wins under their belts, the Bobcats now go on the road for three straight matches. They will go to Stephen F. Austin Thursday, to McNeese State Saturday and to Texas-Arlingtron next Tuesday.

The Bobcats will play their next home match on Nov. 5 against Lamar (6:30 p.m.).
