Jones named compliance director for Bobcat sports

Texas State Associate Athletic Director for Internal Affairs Tracy Shoemake announced last week Mary Ellen Jones has been named the assistant athletic director for compliance.

“We are thrilled to have Mary Ellen join our athletics administration team,” Shoemake said. “She brings a wealth of experience in compliance and monitoring the success of student athletes at the NCAA and Big 12 offices, as well as a Big XII and Patriot League universities. She is going to be a great asset to our program.”

Jones comes to Texas State from the University of South Florida, where she served as a stewardship administrator for the USF Foundation for one year. In addition, she also was a member of a certification peer review team for the NCAA in 2009.

Jones went to USF after serving as an assistant director for the Athletic Academic Affairs Department at the University of Oklahoma. She previously served for four years in the Big XII Conference Office, where she was director of compliance for one year and assistant director for compliance for three years.

She has also served on the NCAA staff in enforcement services and helped verify the eligibility of student-athletes at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY, and Colgate University.

In addition to her professional experience in compliance, Jones also served as an assistant coach in field hockey and lacrosse at Earlham College in 2001-02.

A native of Oneida, NY, Jones earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration at SUNY-Brockport, where she was a four-year letter winner in field hockey and a three-year letter winner in lacrosse. She also earned a master’s degree in physical education at Ball State.
