Bobcats split week's volleyball matches

The Texas State volleyball team split two matches last week and now is 10-12 overall and 4-3 in the Southland Conference.

The Bobcats knocked off Northwestern State, 3-1 (25-20, 25-23, 24-26, 25-20) last Saturday at Strahan Coliseum after losing a five-set match at home against Central Arkansas (25-18, 25-18, 23-25, 19-25, 15-12) last Wednesday.

AJ Watlington led the Bobcats with nine kills against Northwestern State, leading a balanced attack in which Jessica Weynand, Melinda Cave and Jillian Wolpman all recorded eight kills.

The Bobcats outhit Northwestern State, .230 to .148, in their fourth straight win against the Demons. Texas State leads the all-time series, 33-2.

Texas State worked a very tight match against Central Arkansas, but the Bears still prevailed, raising their record to 7-0 in the Southland Conference and 18-3 overall.

Weynand led the Bobcats with 12 kills, followed by Amber Calhoun with 10.

The Bobcats will next play Nicholls State Thursday at Strahan Coliseum (6:30 p.m.).
