STAFF REPORT

The San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce (SMACC) Ambassadors recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the San Marcos Optimist Club at Ernie’s Paint and Body Shop.

The location for the ceremony was chosen because the “Ernie” of Ernie’s Paint and Body Shop is Ernest Valdez Jr., a founding member of the club. Ernie’s has been a dedicated sponsor of the Optimists.

Although the Optimist Club is already a member of the chamber, the club asked for a ribbon cutting as a reintroduction to the community.

Optimist Clubs conduct service projects in their communities with the goal of giving a helping hand to youth. Each Optimist Club determines the needs of young people in the community and organizes programs to meet those needs.

Ernie’s has been a forerunner accomplishing such goals with community sponsorships and donations, in addition to providing motivational speeches, guided tours of facilities and scholarships to young people.

The Optimist Club is named for its positive outlook on life and business. For more information on the club, go to www.optimist.org.

The San Marcos chapter meets the first and third Wednesday of every month in the TCOR Insurance Management conference room. Call (512) 757-1649 for more information.
