Texas State soccer goalie Mandi Mawyer was named the Southland Conference Goalkeeper of the Week after helping the Bobcats to two shutouts in league play.
The Bobcats notched wins of 1-0 against Central Arkansas and 2-0 against Northwestern State as they improved to 7-5 overall with their 2-0 start in the league. The shutout at Central Arkansas snapped a four-game winning streak for the Bears, while the shutout at Northwestern State put the Bobcats on a four-game winning streak.
The league weekly honor is the first this year for Mawyer, the second this year for the Bobcats and the third of her career. The San Antonio native helped the Bobcats to their seventh shutout of the season, a league best mark. Indeed, every Texas State win this year has been a shutout.
Mawyer faced 16 shots in the two games, recording four saves.
Joining Mawyer in weekly honors is Texas State junior defender Jessica Elting, who was named Honorable Mention Defensive Player of the Week. Halee Hamm of Texas-San Antonio was named Offensive Player of the Week, while Sam Houston State’s Deanna Long took Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Texas State’s next outing on the field will be Friday, against Lamar at the Bobcat Soccer Complex (7 p.m.). The Bobcats will play McNeese State at home next Sunday (1 p.m.).
