STAFF REPORT
The San Marcos Professional Firefighters Association (SMPFFA) will welcome the Pink Heals Tour as the big, pink fire truck travels across the country raising awareness and funds to combat breast cancer. Formerly known as the Pink Ribbon Tour, the pink firetruck is visiting dozens of cities throughout the country, spreading information and gathering funds for breast cancer research.
The pink fire truck will make its local stop on Oct. 21 at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Convention Center. The event will include educational booths and guest speakers. The event will be held between 11a.m. and 1 p.m.
The funds raised by the SMPFFA will go to the Komen Austin Foundation, with the proceeds returning to Hays, Williamson, and Caldwell counties helping persons in the fight against cancer.
The firefighters are also making the distinctive San Marcos Fire and Police Departments’ “Care Enough To Wear Pink” T-shirts available for $10. Contact aacosta@smpffa.com for more information or to purchase a shirt. The Fire Department will wear these shirts at the event.
The Pink Heals campaign is asking everyone to wear pink on Oct. 25, 26 and 27 as a show of support for women who are fighting breast cancer.
Mayor Pro Tem Pam Couch presented a proclamation to San Marcos firefighters in honor of the tour.
