The four women who head local government and public education institutions will be in the spotlight during the San Marcos Area League of Women Voters’ Town and Gown Public Forum at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28 at the San Marcos Activity Center.
Hays County Judge Liz Sumter and San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz represent the “town” part of the forum while Texas State University-San Marcos President Denise Trauth and San Marcos Consolidated School District Superintendent Patty Shafer make up the “gown” part.
After each speaker has made an opening statement, the floor will be opened for questions from the League and the audience. The event is open to the public without charge.
The goal of the forum is to create a better understanding among the entities and the local community. Those attending will be invited to stay for light refreshments. Membership literature will be available for attendees who may be considering joining the League and assisting with the League’s many services to the community.
A nonpartisan organization that is open to men and women, the League of Women Voters’ guiding principles focus on belief in the representative form of government and individual liberties established in the U.S. Constitution and that a democratic government depends upon the informed and active participation of its citizens.
