The Texas State volleyball team won two of three matches at the Southern Methodist University Tournament last weekend, improving to 6-9 as they wrapped up the non-conference portion of their season.
The Bobcats finished the tournament with a 3-1 win against Syracuse (25-14, 25-23, 19-25, 25-22), as Brittany Collins recorded 25 kills and 16 digs, while Jessica Weynand totaled 19 kills and 15 digs.
Weynand finished the tournament with 47 kills and 38 digs, while Amber Calhoun had 21 kills and 12 blocks.
The Bobcats started the tournament with a 3-1 loss to SMU (20-25, 25-23, 32-30, 25-22). Texas State outkilled SMU, 60-52, but hit only .172. Weynand led the Bobcats with 18 kills, followed by Calhoun with ten.
In the middle match of the tournament for the Bobcats, they defeated William & Mary, 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-18).
The Bobcats will next play Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Thursday at Strahan Coliseum (6:30 p.m.) to begin the Southland Conference season.Email | Print
