SMACC announces new awards

STAFF REPORT

The San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce (SMACC) announced Wednesday that it is accepting nominations for a new slate of awards to be presented at this year’s gala.

Nomination forms and awards criteria are available on the chamber’s website at www.sanmarcostexas.com.  This year’s awards will be presented at the Annual Awards Gala on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at City of San Marcos Conference Center on Interstate-35 and McCarty Lane in San Marcos.

“Past award recipients are an excellent representation of how the San Marcos business community thrives on innovation and technology, but still maintains a culture of tradition and service,” said chamber President Phyllis Snodgrass. “Each honored company and individual has harbored a strong commitment to delivering quality products and services in their respective industries while providing service and support to the community in which they live and work. We look forward to honoring our newest slate of award recipients on November 6.”

This year’s award categories include: Business of the Year Award (1-20 employees category), Business of the Year Award (20+ employees category), SOAR Business of the Year Award, Non Profit of the Year Award, Emerging Business of the Year Award, Ambassador of the Year Award and the Community Inspiration Award (formerly the Chairman’s award).

This spring, SMACC’s business development committee met to create new awards categories to better reward chamber members for their service and commitment to the community. The proposals were approved by the chamber’s board of directors at the June 2009 board meeting and are now being introduced to the membership and the general public.
