Construction at the Wonder World Drive and Hunter Road intersection is expected to back up traffic for at least the next week, and residents are encouraged to seek alternate routes.
J.C. Evans Construction is expanding the intersection in association with the Wonder World Drive Extension project. A temporary right lane on Hunter Road is under construction now to allow southbound traffic to continue without having to wait for vehicles turning left on Wonder World Drive.
For at least the next week, drivers may experience lengthy traffic backups on Hunter Road between Wonder World Drive and Bishop Street while the temporary lane is being built.
Construction work is also continuing on a section of Wonder World Drive where the westbound lane is being rebuilt from Stagecoach Trail to the Hunter Road intersection. The delays on Wonder World are expected to continue for approximately a month.
“The temporary lane will help traffic flow, but until the intersection is completed, we will have serious congestion in this area,” said Tom Taggart, Director of Public Services. “When completed, the Wonder World project and these intersection improvements will help improve mobility in San Marcos.”
The intersection project is anticipated to be completed in the next four weeks. The entire Wonder World Drive extension, which will link I-35 from Hunter Road to Ranch Road 12, will be completed in fall of 2010.
