The Texas State women’s soccer team played well during the last weekend, but lost two games in California, each by one goal.
After losing, 2-1, to Cal-Irvine on Aug. 28, the Bobcats fell, 1-0, to Cal-Riverside Sunday afternoon in overtime.
Both the Bobcats and Cal-Riverside both are now 1-2-0 for the season.
In an intense, foul ridden game, Texas State and Riverside were signaled for a combined 29 fouls and five yellow cards.
Texas State played with 10 people on the field midway throughout the second half and managed to hold off the Highlanders and force an overtime.
Cal-Riverside attempted 18 shots and sophomore Deborah Ross recorded ten saves for Texas State.
Just more than one minute into overtime, Riverside’s Sally Yunker managed a shot past Ross and scored the game-winning goal from 10 yards out on an assist from Ashley Parks.
The Bobcats took 11 shots, led by freshman Taylor Person with four tries, including two shots-on-goal.
Highlander keeper Jessica White recorded seven saves to earn the win.
The Bobcats return to the field Sept. 4-6 when they travel to Birmingham, AL, to compete in the Samford Bulldog Invitational. Texas State will face tournament host Samford and Tennessee Tech during the weekend.Email | Print
