STAFF REPORT

Hays County Deputy Luke Lysek is returning to his job with the Hays County Sheriff’s Office after a recent deployment to Iraq.

Corporal Lysek, as he is known to his military cadre, is a member of A Troop, 1/124th Cavalry, 36th Infantry Division of the Texas Army National Guard.  After spending a short training session in Georgia, his unit was activated to Iraq in May of 2008.

When in Baghdad, Lysek did patrol work and escorted military convoys. He said his arrival met with cool daytime temperatures and cold nights, but, by the end of his tour, summer set in and it was constantly hot. It is not unusual for the temperatures in Iraqi summers to be more than 120 degrees in the shade.

While Lysek was grateful for the care packages he received from home and the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, he said he was glad to be home.

Deputy Lysek’s official date to return to work is Sept.1.
