The reconstruction of the Rio Vista Park Tennis Courts is progressing on schedule. The courts should be completed by Sept. 15. A grand opening celebration is being planned.
The project replaces six old courts, adds a practice backboard and new sports lighting. The $568,126 project also includes shade canopies, player benches, spectator benches, windscreens and a water fountain.
The new courts replace those built in 1974 with a grant from the H-E-B Tennis Foundation. They are designed by Land Design Partners of Austin and are being built by Thomas N Thomas of San Marcos.
Already, the slab and light pole piers have been poured, fence poles are up, electrical lines are trenched, the water fountain water line has been trenched and fence fabric has been installed.
The final construction yet to come includes colorizing the courts and seeding the court grounds.
