The Rotary Club of San Marcos will feature guest speaker, Donaly Brice, at their meeting on Aug 12. The meeting is from 12-1 p.m. and takes place at the Price Center Banquet Hall, 222 West San Antonio Street.
Brice’s topic is “The Battle of Plum Creek in 1840: The Last Major Indian Raid in Central Texas.” His speech coincides with the anniversary date of the battle.
The Battle of Plum Creek took place near what is now Lockhart. General Edward Burleson, a founder of both Texas and San Marcos, was a key player in the successful defense of this last indian attack.
Brice works for the Texas State libraries as an archivist. He is the author of “The Great Comanche Raid: Boldest Indian Attack of the Texas Republic.”
