Author Donaly Brice will speak on the Battle of Plum Creek, a Republic of Texas-era clash between Commanche warriors and militia, at the Rotary Club of San Marcos’ regular meeting this week.
The meeting will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the Price Seniors Center banquet hall, 222 W. San Antonio St.
Brice’s book, The Great Comanche Raid: Boldest Indian Attack of the Texas Republic, explores Penateka Comanche War Chief Buffalo Hump’s 1840 foray into Texas to Victoria and Linnville on the coast.
On the war party’s return trip to West Texas, they were met near present day Lockhart by volunteers.
