San Marcos plans two budget workshops

The City Council’s first budget workshop, originally scheduled for Aug. 6, has been moved to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11 at City Hall, 630 E. Hopkins.

City Manager Rick Menchaca will present the proposed 2009-2010 fiscal year budget and the city council will discuss the $145.4 million spending program for municipal government. A second budget workshop is scheduled for Thursday, August 13 at 6 p.m. at City Hall to continue the discussion and direction from the city council.

Other key dates for the budget process include:

• Aug. 13: First public hearing on tax rate at 8 p.m.
• Aug. 18: Second public hearing on tax rate, public hearing on the budget at 8 p.m.
• Sept. 1: Adoption of budget and tax rate
• Oct. 1: New budget takes effect

The Planning and Zoning Commission meeting scheduled for August 11 at 6 p.m. will be held in the Municipal Courtroom on the second floor of the Municipal Building, 630 E. Hopkins.
