SAFER grant adds nine firefighters in Dripping Springs area

The Hays County Emergency Services District (ESD) No. 6 will hire nine new firefighters, thanks to a $975,420 SAFER (Staffing For Adequate Fire and Emergency Response) grant.

Tim Gothard, Fire Chief for E.S.D. No. 6, announced the grant was received from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.

The aim of SAFER grants is to help local fire districts maintain 24-hour staffing and help those communities staff enough protection from fire and fire related hazards.

The nine new firefighters will be added to the seventy volunteers and the other nine firefighters currently employed to serve the citizens living in the 281 square miles around Dripping Springs, Driftfood and Henly.
