City arts commission seeks projects

The City of San Marcos Arts Commission announced today that it is accepting applications for projects. The projects should encourage and enhance the artistic quality of events in San Marcos while promoting tourism and the hotel/convention industry.

The commission has only one funding opportunity for projects between Oct. 1, 2009, and Sept. 30, 2010.

Examples of previously funded events include Summer in the Park, Fiesta del Mariachi, Eddie Durham Jazz Festival, Walkers’ Gallery, and the Heart of Texas Chorus Regional Competition.

The deadline to apply is Sept. 15. Applicants are encouraged to schedule a pre-review meeting with city staff to discuss and review the application before final submittal.

Applications are available at the Parks and Recreation Main Office at the Grant Harris Jr. Building (401 East Hopkins Street.) Applications also are available online at www.sanmarcostx.gov/arts. For additional information,  contact city Recreation Manager Lisa Morris at (512) 393-8409.
