The Texas State Association of Fire Fighters has voted to hold its 42nd biennial convention in 2011 at the city of San Marcos Conference Center and the Embassy Suites Hotel & Spa.
The conference will bring more than 300 delegates, including members of the Fire Fighters Auxiliary and Retired Fire Fighters and their families to San Marcos for the six day conference slated for July of 2011. From 1,000 to 1,200 room nights are expected to be booked.
“I am very proud of our fire fighters and their outstanding representation of the San Marcos Professional Fire Fighters Association and our community at this year’s conference,” Mayor Susan Narvaiz said. “I am also proud of our community for the great outreach to bring one of the largest conferences ever to San Marcos.”
This conference ranks in the top five in meeting size and number of delegates at the Embassy Suites and San Marcos Conference Center.
Mayor Narvaiz, City Manager Rick Menchaca and new Fire Chief Les Stephens joined Howard Minor and other members of the San Marcos Professional Fire Fighters Association in making the presentation at the 2009 convention held in Richardson this week.
Rebecca Ybarra-Ramirez, the San Marcos Convention and Visitor Bureau director, and Rosa Garza representing the Embassy Suites Hotel, rounded out the team encouraging the organization to select San Marcos.
San Marcos competed with El Paso and McAllen for the 2011 convention.
