NOTE: The charges were dismissed in June 2010 with the Hays County District attorney declined to prosecute the case.
An attorney for former Lehman High School theater teacher Bowie Ibarra released a statement saying her client denies “any sexual or romantic contact between him and any student.”
Ibarra turned himself in to the Hays County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) last week after Hays County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Beth Smith signed an arrest warrant. Ibarra is accused of having an improper relationship with a student.
“First, there have been no allegations that Mr. Ibarra engaged in any physical acts, sexual contact or other physical contact of a sexual or romantic nature with any student,” said Ibarra attorney Cindy Burgess, of the Bertolino Law Firm. “Mr. Ibarra adamantly denies any sexual or romantic contact between him and any student.”
Continued Burgess, “The student with whom Mr. Ibarra allegedly had an improper relationship is 18 years old. Mr Ibarra was a very popular teacher at Lehman High School. He has received numerous calls and correspondence from parents and students, as well as community support of those that know him. He is appreciative of these supportive messages. Mr. Ibarra hopes to resolve this matter and will, in accordance with his constitutional rights, present himself for trial to resolve this matter.”
Ibarra will be on bond, which was set at $5,000, pending trial.
