HCPHD, CTMC to offer bilingual childbirth classes

The Hays County Personal Health Department (HCPHD) and Central Texas Medical Center’s (CTMC) Creative Living Series will offer free childbirth classes starting Aug 7. The classes will be held simultaneously in English and Spanish.

“We’ve seen a growing need for bilingual childbirth classes in Hays County and we’re looking forward to being able to meet that need,” said Cora Furr, R.N., FNP, who administers Hays County’s Women Services. “We plan to add additional childbirth classes as we get requests from the community.”

The first five session class will take place weekly in August, generally on Fridays. The class will run from Aug. 7-27, with the final session taking place on a Thursday. The second session will run from Sept. 11 to Oct. 8. Sessions take place at the HCPHD offices, located at 401-A Broadway in San Marcos, and will run from 1-3 p.m.

Space is limited to 12 couples, and women should be at least 28 weeks pregnant. Attendees should brings their own blankets, one or two pillows and a support person, if available. Call (512) 393-5567 by July 30, to sign up.
