Police say a woman awakened to a stranger sexually assaulting her in her bed at approximately 12:45 a.m. Thursday. The suspect, armed with a handgun, fled the residence on foot after the assault.

Police believe the suspect entered the victim’s house through an unsecured door.

“We are asking residents to be very diligent in reporting suspicious behavior in their neighborhoods,” said SMPD Commander Terry Nichols. “We also remind citizens to keep their doors and windows locked.”

Police are asking for anyone with information about the investigation to contact the Criminal Investigation Division at 753-2300 or 753-2108.
