Police seek assault suspect

The San Marcos Police Department (SMPD) is investigating an aggravated sexual assault that occurred during the early morning hours of Thursday, July 9 on Burleson Street.

Police say a woman awakened to a stranger sexually assaulting her in her bed at approximately 12:45 a.m. Thursday. The suspect, armed with a handgun, fled the residence on foot after the assault.

Police believe the suspect entered the victim’s house through an unsecured door.

The suspect is described as  black male in his late teens or early 20s, approximately 6-foot-1, slender, trim build, close cropped hair, and a small head with small facial features.

“We are asking residents to be very diligent in reporting suspicious behavior in their neighborhoods,” said SMPD Commander Terry Nichols. “We also remind citizens to keep their doors and windows locked.”

Police are asking for anyone with information about the investigation to contact the Criminal Investigation Division at 753-2300 or 753-2108.
