The Hays County Road Department will begin work Monday on the Old Bastrop Highway (County Road 266) from the San Marcos River to Staples Road (Farm-to-Market Road 621). The roadway will be closed to all through traffic for about three months.
“The pavement is in really bad shape, especially near the approach to the San Marcos River, and needs to be completely re-built,” said Tim Vande Vorde, operations superintendent for the Hays County Roads Department. “We’ll be recycling the existing pavement, bringing in new base material as needed and repaving the surface to make the road smoother and safer.”
Signage at either end of the road will alert motorists to the closure. Only local traffic and emergency vehicles will be allowed access. Construction status updates are available on the county’s roads Web site. The current list is here.
